Saint John`s growing reputation as one of Canada`s best cities is reaching into the southern hemisphere. That`s why mechanical engineer Hector Lamprea left Bogotá, Colombia and its big city grind to come to a community where you can have a successful career and still go home for lunch every day.
Hector Lamprea was living in his hometown of Bogotá, Colombia when he first visited Saint John. He liked what and he saw and, tired of the big city grind back home, he soon packed his family and made the move north.
"Saint John is a nice city, it`s very peaceful and a great community," says Hector. "We thought, `why not shoot for that for our kids?`."
Now, this mechanical engineer with the consulting firm Fundy Engineering is enjoying life to its fullest in the city perched on the Bay of Fundy.
Of course, Hector wasn`t the first member of his family to discover Saint John`s charms. His brother moved to the city several years earlier to work with regional telco powerhouse Aliant which is headquartered in Saint John. The IT specialist with an entrepreneurial streak found Saint John to be a fertile area for new businesses and went on to launch several tech companies.

Hector was drawn to Saint John because it offered both great career opportunities and a great quality of life. He didn`t need to sacrifice one for the other. "I actually go home for lunch every day," says Hector. "My house is only five minutes from my office. To do that back in Bogotá I`d need three hours."
Moving to a new country isn`t always easy. But Saint John`s warm hospitality helped things go smoothly. "I feel like we were welcomed here in the community and in my company," he says. "I`d like to stay in Saint John for a long, long time."
