Welcome Back! to Beautiful Saint John, NB
After living in the US and Western Canada for years, Gold Record country music artist Chris Cummings has moved back to his hometown of Saint John to work on his next album.
While living away, Chris found himself constantly correcting the misperceptions folks have about life in Eastern Canada, so he shot his latest music video here to show the world what life is really like in Saint John.
Did you know?
- The opening sequence was filmed as an homage to the opening of the TV Sitcom Welcome Back! Kotter, using locations in the Saint John Community.
- The Bricklin Chris uses in this video was manufactured in Saint John in the 70`s, one of the only vehicles completely made in Canada. This particular car is one of the few remaining models in original condition (thanks to owner Mike McCluskey and his son Mike Jr, Chris`s driver).
- The concert scenes were filmed at the Imperial Theatre in Uptown Saint John, one of the oldest theatres in Canada and hailed by the Globe and Mail as "the most beautifully restored theatre in Canada".
- New Brunswick has 63 covered bridges, most of which are still used for regular vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The bridge featured in this video is one of many in and around the spectacular coastal village of St. Martins (part of the Saint John Community and a very popular spot for bicyclists from around the world).
- There are eight river ferries in the Saint John Community, and all of them are free.
- The guys in the blue jerseys are members of the SeaDogs, Saint John`s QMJHL hockey team.
- The more colourful crowd scenes were shot at the Saint John City Market, the oldest farmers market in continued operation in Canada. On days when cruise ships visit (which is most days from July to the end of October) like this one, the Market buzzes with visitors. On other days, it`s the place to grab lunch or a coffee, chat with friends, shop for groceries or simply enjoy the handmade crafts and art on display by local artisans.
- The dog Chris walks with on the beach was borrowed from the Saint John Animal Rescue League (the local animal shelter). As a result of the exposure from her acting debut, "Niki" found a loving Forever Home a few weeks after the filming!
- The final scene was filmed on the Saint John Boardwalk, one of the more popular entertainment centres in the city. The Boardwalk is flanked by the many popular restaraunts, bars and shops of Market Square, with the Saint John Harbour and beach volleyball courts facing opposite.
True to form, the entire Saint John Community supported this project! Whether they were extras or people who loaned their time, technical skills or equipment, this project would not have been possible without each one of them.
Station 1 - Saint John`s new Skatepark Opens
Check out the scene at Station 1, Saint John`s long awaited skatepark (brought to us by the hard work of the Fundy Skateboard Association and many others). Located under the Main St. viaduct, adjacent to Harbour Passage and Harbour Station, this concrete utopia boasts rails, half and quarter-pipes, and much more!
